About

Reception conditions for the refugees in Calais are worsening and there is an increasing death toll of refugees attempting to cross the channel from Calais to Dover. People are getting together all over the UK to send basic aid, that is not being provided in the holding camp in Calais. Writers are in the unique position to be able to express their concerns about the situation that the state does not seem to share.

Writers for Calais Refugees is an anthology in support of people seeking refuge.

The anthology is now closed for submissions. Thank you for your continued support and to all the writers that have sent in their fantastic responses, it’s been amazing. Thanks for all the support the anthology has had, we are now working towards a printed version. More details to follow.

  1. Writers all over the world can use their skills not only to touch people’s hearts but to email and write letters to politicians and those who have the power to change policies that are inadequate and in many cases appalling. This tragedy is a global responsibility, a world crisis that can’t be ignored. To seek asylum a human right and to respond with aid and support a human responsibility. Thank you for all the positive actions you are doing.

    1. I have been reduced to tears so many times, with every story, with every poem on this blog and I am humbled to have had my little contribution included amongst the magnificent writers here. Yet, the horrors continue, the media still using Migrant and not Refugee. Governments chatting but no action, people dying, children lost, deplorable inhumane camps and the world fences borders. It seems that only the compassionate care and from that compassion has risen, from just ordinary people, so much genuine help. So much done, so much more to be done and still they die.
