Leila Hussein

Flakes of seasalt
huddle in my nostrils like
my day’s bones.

Regrets surround me
in this water as it
lifts and pulls.

Ya allah.

Voice inside
calls out. My bones ache
for home.

The water slaps
my face. My energy wanes.
sea salt scalds.

Hope leaves me.
A rainbow, accusatory hurts my
brow. I slow.

Ya Allah, please help.

Debris of feelings.
I gasp, choke. Tears feel
too much.

Lots of people
cry in this water, now.
I want home.
