Sky Hawkins

If I’d  had a wish

for one day only
Buttercups scooped up wasted tears
to feed the unloved weeds
Dead heads
Split stems
Wilted leaves
shuddered towards open fields

Huddled together
one dared to look up
Yellow suns
Raised heads
Split backs
straightened stems
Wilted leaves
held hands

Golden rays shone a symphony
Hava nagila
For one day only
Dead dandelions dared to dance
Breathed in open fields
Blew away the fairie clocks
Danced like they had never danced before

When the sun went down
night time’s cloak gathered them together
The fairie clocks guided them back
and the buttercup’s wilted leaves
laid a bed for the unloved weeds
